Description

The Cape Playhouse is a true gem of Cape Cod. The oldest operating professional theatre in the country, the Cape Playhouse is a little piece of Broadway here in Dennis. Each year, the Cape Playhouse brings in Broadway actors, Tony nominees, and stars of TV and film to perform some of theatre's biggest hits on Cape Cod!

With interesting beginnings (the Playhouse was in fact an old church, literally picked up from its original spot and moved to Dennis); the Cape Playhouse celebrates its 85th season this summer. While remaining true to its old form and honoring its humble beginnings (the pews are still the seats!) it has successfully managed to keep up with the ever-changing society and remain a relevant, cultural, and significant theatre in Cape Cod today.

The Cape Playhouse has 40,000 visitors each year, and brings in locals and tourists, families and friends, children and adults alike. Generating a great deal of Dennis' and Cape Cod's tourism, many come from all over the country and world to see a show in the theatre that once had Bette Davis, Gregory Peck, and Humphrey Bogart grace its stage.

Not only does the Cape Playhouse offer six main-stage Broadway shows each summer, it also offers a Children's Theatre, dazzling kids of all ages with shows that are entertaining, educational, and interactive. The Cape Playhouse is committed to keeping theatre alive and important, and what better way to do that than expose children to the joys and magic of live theatre?

This season, the Cape Playhouse opened with a critically acclaimed and wonderfully received one-woman show. An Evening with Lucille Ball, Thank You for Asking, starred Suzanne LaRusch (named "The Official Lucy Performer") and was directed by Lucy's real life daughter, Lucie Arnaz. Giving the audience a rare look at Lucy's on and off screen life, audiences were delighted by LaRusch's startlingly realistic depiction of Lucy, filled with laughter and poignancy.

Currently, a musical murder mystery is thrilling audiences and keeping them guessing after each laugh. No Way to Treat a Lady stars four incredibly talented actors, who have their work cut out for them as they portray seventeen different characters! No Way to Treat a Lady runs for one more week, and you wouldn't want to miss the show that The Cape Codder called "a theatrical treat," and Cape Cod Today and Cape Cod Times praised as "impressive and versatile
